How much does a solar installation cost in Morocco in 2026?

Indicative 2026 brackets by power, roof, battery and VAT surcharges — to know what to expect before your quote.

"How much does it really cost?" is the first sentence of almost every one of my meetings. And the reason the figures you find online range from single to triple is easy to explain: the price of a panel sitting on a shelf has nothing to do with that of a turnkey installation, mounted on your roof and connected. So I'd rather lay out the 2026 Moroccan market brackets as they are, with their sources and, above all, their limits.

Turnkey brackets by power (indicative 2026)

These prices cover both equipment supply and the full installation (inverter, wiring, structure, commissioning). They're drawn from Moroccan installer publications and online price guides — indicative 2026 brackets, not official rates.

Average turnkey cost: about 10,000 – 14,000 DH/kWc (equipment + labour, indicative 2026 bracket — sources: solaropeak.com, ecovolt.ma, electrosolarplus.ma, lechantier.ma).

The spread is real: it reflects roof type, distance to electrical panels, inverter brand, and installer margins. An on-site quote remains essential.

Beware of "4,700 DH/kWc" prices: that's not turnkey

You'll often see a price around 4,700 DH/kWc or even lower circulating. That figure corresponds to the equipment kit cost alone (panels + inverter, excluding installation, wiring, structure, connection) — implausibly low for a finished turnkey installation. Don't compare this figure to the brackets above: they're two different realities (indicative 2026 bracket — sources: solaropeak.com, ecovolt.ma).

What makes up the price: equipment and installation

Photovoltaic panels

Indicative 2026 market price: ~1.0 – 1.5 DH/Wc for panels alone (excluding installation). 550–600 W modules represent the current standard — count on about 2 panels per kWc installed.

The inverter

Indicative example: a Huawei SUN2000-5K inverter traded around ~12,500 DH with a 10-year warranty (indicative 2026 market price — source: electrosolarplus.ma). The range varies by power and brand.

Labour and accessories

Mounting structure, DC/AC wiring, protection panel, administrative steps (Law 82-21 declaration for installations under 11 kWc) — these items represent a significant share of the total turnkey cost.

Surcharges depending on roof configuration

Not all roofs are alike. Some configurations add significant costs:

  • Tile or corrugated-sheet roof (more technical installation): +6,000 – 12,000 DH (indicative 2026 bracket — source: electrosolarplus.ma, lechantier.ma)
  • Steep slope (> 30°): +4,000 – 8,000 DH for safety equipment and installation complexity (indicative 2026 bracket)

A concrete terrace with easy access remains the least costly configuration. If your roof is steep or made of fragile materials, budget for this surcharge.

The battery question: useful, but not cost-neutral

A battery-less installation (grid-connected) remains the most common and most profitable solution for about 80% of urban homes. With Law 82-21 now in force (Decree 2-25-100, June 2026), low-voltage self-generation is organised — but no residential (BT) buy-back tariff is published yet: the ANRE has only published a surplus buy-back tariff (0.18–0.21 DH/kWh) for medium/high/very-high voltage, not for homes under 11 kW. Until that BT tariff exists in black and white, we don't price in any export revenue — solar's value is therefore mainly in direct self-consumption, at the rate you already pay (0.9010 – 1.5958 DH/kWh depending on your ONEE/régie bracket).

If you want to store energy for the evening or protect against outages, an LFP battery adds a significant cost:

  • LFP battery 5 – 15 kWh: +22,000 – 60,000 MAD depending on capacity and brand (indicative 2026 bracket — sources: ecovolt.ma, electrosolarplus.ma)
  • Payback stretches by 1 to 3 years with a battery

For regular residential use without frequent-outage constraints, the grid plays the role of a free "virtual battery" — which explains why most Moroccan installations in 2026 remain without storage.

VAT and customs duties: an important nuance

Morocco's solar tax regime in 2026 is not uniform:

  • Bare photovoltaic panels: VAT-exempt — but with no input-VAT deduction right. For an individual, this is neutral. For a VAT-liable business, the lack of deductibility can reduce the benefit.
  • Turnkey installation (supply + installation): subject to 20% VAT — but with deduction rights for liable professionals. The price brackets in this guide are stated including VAT for individuals.
  • Inverters: customs duties on inverters have changed — they dropped from 17.5% to 2.5% for imported models, which contributed to lowering their market cost in 2026 (source: lechantier.ma, fnh.ma).

If you're a business or investor, have your VAT situation checked by an accountant: the treatment can vary depending on the legal nature of the installation.

Return on investment: 5 to 7 years residential

The payback most often cited by Moroccan installers for a standard residential installation (without battery) is 5 to 7 years — indicative 2026 bracket, consistent with several sources (solaropeak.com, ecovolt.ma, fnh.ma). With a battery, add 1 to 3 more years.

This calculation depends heavily on your actual consumption and your ONEE/régie tariff bracket. A household consuming more than 310 kWh/month (bracket at 1.3817 DH/kWh, or beyond 510 kWh at 1.5958 DH/kWh) recovers its installation faster than a low consumer — solar is all the more profitable the higher your current bill is. How many panels do you need?

Before comparing prices, you need to know the right power for your household. A household consuming between 4,000 and 6,000 kWh/year generally needs 3 to 5 kWc; between 6,000 and 10,000 kWh/year, more like 5 to 8 kWc. Each kWc takes up about 5 to 6 m² of roof.

A last word before signing anything

Use these brackets to budget and to spot an offer that's abnormally low or abnormally expensive. But don't ask them for what they can't give: a firm price. Your roof configuration, your consumption, your ONEE bracket and the distance between the panels and the electrical panel move the final total, sometimes by several thousand dirhams.
